Sunflowers
August 2015

“But like sunflowers we turn toward light. Light warms, and in most cases it draws us to itself. And in this light, we can see beyond shadow and illusion to something beyond our modest receptors, to what is way beyond us, and deep inside.”

Yesterday my brother left on a two year mission for the LDS church. The days and weeks leading up to his event were the longest days and the shortest weeks ever.

You know when people are younger than you but you still look up to them? Thats my little brother. Dane is the little brother you dream of, he is my best friend, role model, fearless dare devil, and the coolest person you will ever meet. There isn't anyone who doesn't like him, serious.

I will forever cherish this summer we had together. Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, going to the top of the Empire State Building, walking down Newbury Street, eating George Town Cupcakes, cruising around the ocean in Santa Monica, meeting Gidget in Malibu, playing spike ball for countless hours, body surfing at Del Mar, going through the temple, even eating at Taco Bell for the final time. These are the memories and moments that will get me through the next two years.

Two days before my brother left my dad started talking to me, about when he went on a mission, he is a convert to the church. He went on his LDS mission and his parents didn't understand why he would do such a thing. He sat there telling me that he can't imagine what his parents felt and went through because of how hard it is to send off sweet Dane even with my parents support. I have so much respect for the missionaries that go out and their families.

It is a gut wrenching terrible and beautiful time of life. I'm so proud of my little brother and his choice to serve.

We will write him every week (probably every day)
Send him packages
Skype him four times
And I cannot wait to hear about the lives he changes and see him grow.
The Slovaks are so lucky.
Miss him like crazy.

Love you Starší.
